Dischidia pectinoides

Don't even get us started on Dischidia. They are one of our favorite type of plants! These epiphytes grow on the sides of trees or even rocks similar to orchids. This particular species is native to parts of the Philippines. When pectinoides is mature, it's foliage can 'inflate' to create a sort of hollow shell. In the wild these little pockets are the perfect home for ants to nest as they have a symbiotic relationship with Dischidia pectompodes! The Dischidia provides shelter for the ants and the ants provide nutrients and fertilizer via scraps and excrement for the Dischidia!

These would thrive as a mounted plant which can help mimic it's natural environment although they do just as nicely in a potted planter! Dischidia care is very similar to Hoya care. They like a very nice bright filtered light and can go slightly on the dry side when it comes to watering. Water every 10-14 days as the pot drys or the foliage feels limp rather than firm. When potting in soil use a semi-coarse chunky soil that can drain water well.

This batch is Arium grown!
